Before and After School Programs

Fall 2019

Cedar Wood Elementary PTA helps to organize several after school enrichment programs for our students. They are offered on a first come, first served basis and are divided into two groups by coordinators. Please take a look at the below information for more details.

PLEASE NOTE: These are private programs organized by our PTA. Sign ups and payments are done directly through each company providing the activity. The school or PTA cannot sign you up or take payments.


Foreign Language for Youth (FLY) •

Foreign Language for Youth (FLY) is offering Spanish and Mandarin classes at Cedar Wood Elementary beginning the week of October 14th ending in the Spring of 2019. FLY’s curriculum exposes students to over 1,000 vocabulary words and 70 dialogue segments in the first year. Our uniquely tailored advanced curriculum challenge returning students in reading, writing, speaking and drama.

Art Wizards •

Art Wizards will fall into the new series of classes starting January 9th.
Learn to use different mediums such as chalk and oil pastels, watercolors, pencils and markers. New students are welcome and we will have new projects for our returning students.

Robot U •

Lego Jr Robotics •

In this series of classes, brought to you by Cedar Wood PTA and Robot U, students will use LEGO Education’s WeDo robotics system for budding engineers to learn engineering and programming concepts through several fun and easy builds.

Robot U Minecraft •

“Minecraft…..need we say more?”

Students build on their own plots in the company of the rest of the class or join in on different challenges and games in the world of Minecraft on Robot U’s private server. In this social online gaming environment, students will learn to communicate through messaging and how to work together to solve challenges. All while under the supervision of the server administrator.

Class Length – 60 minutes

Difficulty – Beginner

Age Recommendation – 2nd grade enthusiast + Age 7 and up

Session Dates are as follows:
Oct 10, 17, 24, 31; Nov 14, 21; Dec 5, 12

This is a hands-on class using LEGO® bricks to design and build educational models, including motorized machines!

• Problem solving and critical thinking skills are developed
• Promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
• Math and Science are explored through hands-on projects
• Creativity and self-confidence are encouraged
• Architecture and Engineering concepts are explored.
