Before and After School Programs

Fall 2018

Cedar Wood Elementary PTA helps to organize several after school enrichment programs for our students. They are offered on a first come, first served basis and are divided into two groups by coordinators. Please take a look at the below information for more details.

PLEASE NOTE: These are private programs organized by our PTA. Sign ups and payments are done directly through each company providing the activity. The school or PTA cannot sign you up or take payments.


Foreign Language for Youth (FLY) •

Foreign Language for Youth (FLY) is offering Spanish and Mandarin classes at Cedar Wood Elementary beginning the week of October 15th ending in the Spring of 2019. FLY’s curriculum exposes students to over 1,000 vocabulary words and 70 dialogue segments in the first year. Our uniquely tailored advanced curriculum challenge returning students in reading, writing, speaking and drama.

Art Wizards •

Art Wizards will fall into the new series of classes starting September 25th & 26th.
Learn to use different mediums such as chalk and oil pastels, watercolors, pencils
and markers. New students are welcome and we will have new projects for our returning students.

Robot U •

Lego Jr Robotics •

In this series of classes, brought to you by Cedar Wood PTA and Robot U, students will use LEGO Education’s WeDo robotics system for budding engineers to learn engineering and programming concepts through several fun and easy builds.

Lego Mindstorm Robotics •

Students partner up to build and program LEGO MINDSTORMS robots each week to learn and experiment with. Learning new concepts in engineering and programming by using the sets various sensors, motors, parts and LEGO Education’s graphical programming language. There will be many fun challenges that need creative solutions.

Chess Club •

Improve your problem-solving skills, your memory, think and plan ahead. Learn chess tactics, solve chess puzzles, play competitive and just-for-fun games! Workbooks and teaching materials are provided, just come ready to learn!

Bricks for Kidz •

Gadgets & Gizmos
Monday afternoons, 9 weeks beginning October 8
3:40 to 4:45 in Portable 12 • $90
Session Dates are as follows:
Oct. 8, 15, 22, 29; Nov. 19, 26; Dec. 3, 10
(NO CLASS Nov. 5, 12)

This is a hands-on class using LEGO® bricks to design and build educational models, including motorized machines! While exploring engineering, architecture and physics, students will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. Scholarships available. Students will take minifig home!
