Foreign Language for Youth (FLY)
Foreign Language for Youth (FLY), a nonprofit since 1995, teaches Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Japanese languages, and culture to students in grades K-8. Up to 6 levels of curriculum are available for students to learn dialogue and vocabulary through games, songs, stories, and other fun activities led by an experienced teacher. Online classes are now available for all students with live teacher-led classes, new videos, and activities. The live online classes inspire students to stay engaged and sharpen their skills while at home and easily complement other home learning programs. Scholarships are available. Foreign Language for Youth (FLY) generally offers Spanish and Mandarin classes at Cedar Wood Elementary all year long. FLY’s curriculum exposes students to over 1,000 vocabulary words and 70 dialogue segments in the first year. Our uniquely tailored advanced curriculum challenge returning students in reading, writing, speaking and drama.
In this series of distant learning classes, brought to you by Cedar Wood PTA and Robot U, students will use LEGO Education’s WeDo robotics system for budding engineers to learn engineering and programming concepts through several fun and easy builds. Learn more https://robotu.com/.
Bricks 4 Kidz
In this series of classes, brought to you by Cedar Wood PTA and Bricks 4 Kidz, students will design and build educational models including motorized machines. Check out their virtual program kits and options. Visit the website to register.
Thursday, Cedar Wood Chess Club 3:30-4:35 p.m.
Improve your problem-solving skills, your memory, think and plan ahead. Learn chess tactics, solve chess puzzles, play competitive and just-for-fun games! Workbooks and teaching materials are provided, just come ready to learn! All classes are conducted online via Zoom conferencing. Visit the website to register.
